As the creative force behind bicycle-centric trade shows like VELO, held across multiple German cities, Velokonzept lives and breathes mobility, innovation, and community. In 2017, the Berlin-based company moved into a new headquarters — a relocation that also marked a fresh start for the interior and furniture design of its working environment.
Working Islands was entrusted with the design and realization of the new space: a 250 m² open-plan floor in a newly constructed building. Rather than compartmentalizing the layout, the challenge was to create a spatial concept that balances functional zoning with visual transparency and a sense of openness. This was achieved through a custom-developed glass wall system that defines distinct areas without compromising the spatial flow.
A bold color concept further reinforces the zoning: different hues distinguish each “island” within the hall, visually organizing the space while adding a vibrant, energetic atmosphere. Each furniture set was designed to complement its respective zone’s color, creating a harmonious yet dynamic ensemble. The team’s wish for individual, acoustically optimized workspaces was addressed with smart architectural interventions: wherever full walls were not necessary, glass partitions or colorful, multifunctional modules were used instead. These elements house built-in functions while doubling as visual accents — contributing to a spatial language that feels at once structured and playful.
The resulting interior evokes the spirit of a lively town square: interconnected, open, and full of character. It reflects the youthful, forward-thinking mindset of Velokonzept and brings the energy of the brand’s cycling culture into the everyday work environment.
